Who I Am, and What I Do

Born in Mexico City, I moved to Texas at the age of thirteen with my family.

I have a long history of communicating with the spirits. Both my grandfather and great aunt were mediums and psychics. When I was about eight years old, I had the first of many mediumship experiences which have continued throughout my life.

When visiting my mother in Mexico during my high school and college years, I would ask her to take me to markets where curanderos sold plant medicines and treated clients. I was very interested in learning how to heal people using plants and herbs.

For many years I sensed something was missing in my life, but couldn’t pinpoint it. While in college, I was invited to the home of an acquaintance who was deeply spiritual and connected to shamans. This was my "aha moment,” when I realized that shamanism was what was missing in my life.

After graduation I moved to Los Angeles, where I studied with shamans and participated in Native American ceremonies. I read many books on shamanism, including Michael Harner's The Way of The Shaman and Cave and Cosmos, which helped shape my life in ways that were both familiar and exciting. I continued my learning through the Foundation for Shamanic Studies, completing the Three Year Program of Advanced Initiations in Shamanism and Shamanic Healing with Alicia L. Gates as well as the Two Week Shamanic Healing Intensive.

My early education took place in Catholic schools, and I graduated from a Jesuit high school in 1982. In 1986 I completed a Bachelor of Business Administration at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.

I’ve had an active shamanic healing practice since 2008. I have been an instructor for the Foundation for Shamanic Studies since 2016.
